The Swedish Academy awards Professor Emerita Linda Rugg

The Swedish Academy, which is the institution that awards the Nobel Prize for Literature, has awarded the prize for the Introduction of Swedish Culture Abroad to Linda Haverty Rugg, author and translator, who has taught at the University of California's Department of Scandinavian since 1999. Rugg translates from Swedish to English and has translated, among other works, The FIfth Act and Sarabande by Ingmar Bergman, The History of Bombing by Sven Lindqvist, and Room Service by Richard Swartz. Rugg is the author of Picturing Ourselves: Photography and Autobiography and Self-Projection: The Director's Image in Art Cinema. The prize is shared this year with Judit Kertész of Hungary, who is a translator from Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish into Hungarian.
