On May 15, the Scandinavian Department celebrated Commencement for 2017.

Michael Nakada and Yuliko Yokota received their BAs in Scandinavian, with concentrations in Danish and Swedish respectively. Michael also received the Departmental Citation.

Isobel Boles and Troy Wellington Smith received the MA in Scandinavian, while Jenna Coughlin was awarded the PhD, with a thesis entitled “Conceptions of Nature in Nynorsk Poetry: Local Language and Situated Knowledge in Ivar Aasen, Olav Nygard, and Aslaug Vaa”.
