All graduating students in the academic year 2019-20 may attend this Spring’s Commencement ceremony. Student registration for the ceremony available here, due Monday April 6. Contact your staff advisor with questions.

Participating students will receive specific instructors for the procession and ceremony, in lieu of a dress rehearsal.

Will coronavirus affect this event?  Here is the answer from UC Berkeley’s  External Relations:
Based on the current guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we will hold Spring 2020 Commencement as planned. While coronavirus is a serious public health threat, the immediate risk to the general public is considered low. In addition to washing your hands, we encourage a friendly wave over a handshake at public gatherings. For more info on the virus, staying healthy, and traveling, check out this helpful guide assembled by Berkeley’s University Health Services.
Please visit the coronavirus hub for up to date information about the campus response.

Tickets will be available for purchase in April 2020.
Tickets can also be purchased at the Cal Performances box office or by phone.

Due to limited seating, there is a limit of 4 tickets per graduate. Tickets are $10 each. Guests may select a free ticket for children ages 5 and under. Students participating in the ceremony do not need a ticket.

Tickets ordered online or by phone may be claimed at the Cal Performances Box Office during regular hours, or beginning one hour before the ceremony at the Playhouse Box Office will-call.  Remaining unsold tickets will also be available for purchase at the Zellerbach Playhouse Box Office on the day of commencement. Tickets may also be delivered via U.S. Mail. Admission to Zellerbach Playhouse is first come, first seated; doors will open at approximately 8:30am for guests.

All students participating in the ceremony must meet in Dwinelle Plaza by 8:30am. Please leave all valuables (purses, back-packs, etc) with family or friends so you don’t have to carry anything with you during the ceremony.

If you plan to complete your degree, you must be on the degree list. Please review this important information from the College of Letters & Science and make sure to confirm with a College Advisor that you are eligible for graduation.

For purchase or rental at:

Please take your gowns out of their packaging and steam or (carefully) iron them. They will be creased from the packaging, which shows up in photographs.

Honors: All students graduating with honors may purchase Honors Cords to wear at the commencement ceremony. You will be notified of your honors eligibility by email. The Student Store will have a list of all students to purchase an Honors Cord. No distinction is made during the commencement ceremony between honors students and non-honors students. Honors are marked in the commencement program.

The Department does not handle diplomas. The scroll you will receive at the commencement ceremony will commemorate all Commencement exercises of the Departments, Schools, and Colleges of the Berkeley Campus of the University of California. Diplomas are generally mailed to students four months after your graduation date. Please ensure your diploma address is correct in CalCentral (instructions here). For more information, please visit the Office of the Registrar.

If you need proof of completing your degree before the Registrar has processed your diploma, you may obtain a Certificate of Completion. More information regarding the Certificate of Completion is available on the Registrar’s website.

Because of fire laws, and for the safety of everyone, we ask that friends and family refrain from leaving their seats and standing in the aisles to take pictures or videos. Students participating in commencement are asked to pre-register with Grad Images so that they can be contacted after the ceremony. More details about this year’s photography plans to be announced.
