Based upon ongoing research into conspiracy theories, Andreas Önnerfors will explore conspiratorial responses to COVID-19 in Scandinavia in a comparative approach. From the more violent ’Men in Black’ in Denmark to the sectarian milieu in Norway and the eclectic ’Freedom movement’ in Sweden, protests against public health policies and restrictions in Scandinavia in the period 2020–2022 have reproduced cultural patterns of political mobilization but have also been nurtured by shared imaginations of the p(l)andemic. What unites and what distinguishes these forms of social protest in the Nordic Region? What are their common frames and what are their differences?
