The Homeric Question and the Saga Question: Exploring the Origins and Literary Sequence of the Icelandic Family Sagas through Points of Comparison with the Homeric Epics

A lecture by Theodore M. Andersson, Olive H. Palmer Professor of German Studies, Emeritus, Stanford University.

 

Professor Andersson will be discussing similar problems that the Homeric epics and the sagas pose in their respective literatures, looking at what is comparable and not comparable in these works, and finally talking about the literary sequence of Egils saga, Laxdoela saga, and Njáls saga.
